The OA.N is inviting applications for work on the theme of LATERAL FUTURES, for its’ inaugural summer show in the newly renovated other-space.

2018 SUMMER SHOW OPEN CALL IS LIVE

CLOSES 04 JUNE 2018

WHEN: SUBMIT WORK BY EMAIL BEFORE 04 JUNE 2018

WHERE: OTHER-SPACE

THEME: LATERAL FUTURES

Lateral thinking, a term made popular by the philosopher/inventor Edward de Bono, is solving problems through an indirect, often humorous, creative and sometimes seemingly random approach. One which the OA.N would like to invoke in the artwork submitted in response to its’ brief LATERAL FUTURES. The de-Bonian effort of early 2018 by the OA.N is to postulate that the future we march so relentlessly towards is a lateral one. Have you ever felt surprised by the way the present unfolds? Have you ever thought that the present before you now (a future of another time) is unrecognisable? Or at the every least improbable? The chances are that you have, and it would seem that if you have, you’re not alone. We are interested in plurality and the summer show is the network’s chance to show this each year. The exhibition is a yearly showcase of the art that has been created around and in the context of the other-art network. It is displayed throughout the summer in the OA.N gallery, the other-space, and is open to the public daily, from 11:00-17:00. Its’ aim is to push traditional disciplinary boundaries in the production of artworks, providing an ‘other’ context in which to show work.
